Mind Control

Who’s In Control: Your decisions can improve your life. Deciding how much control you have over your decisions will strengthen your ability to improve your health & happiness. Write down all the things that you want to achieve. Then, ask yourself, what are you thinking, learning & doing to reach those goals. Don’t let your current beliefs & past experiences get in the way of controlling what you will do. Your future self is depending on you to develop the mindset needed to make decisions that will put you in charge of the life that you want to achieve.

Food Control: Does your food choose you or do you choose your food? Tastes, flavors, smells, experiences & marketing have a big influence on what we eat. Split your food shopping lists into two columns. In one column, list all the foods that will help to strengthen & heal your body (e.g. whole plant foods) and in the other column, list all the other food items (e.g., processed & ultra processed foods). Read & learn about foods that can optimize your health as it relates to weight management, medication dependency, chronic illness prevention, disease & symptom reversal and the need for supplements. Then, control your food choices to optimize your health & happiness.

Exercise Control: Who controls your activity level? Physical movement has multiple benefits related to healing, health & happiness. Overcoming the feeling of not wanting to exercise may be a challenge for some; however, it is more of a challenge to overcome the negative impact of not exercising. If your lifestyle does not include a moderate level of physical activity, incorporate a cardio & resistance training routine that meets the minimum recommended activity for your age & gender. Routine exercise reduces your risk of diseases such as cardiovascular, cancer, diabetes & depression. By taking control of your exercise routine, your body’s ability to heal & strengthen itself will improve.

Anger Control: We own our own anger & how we respond to it. When we have a sense of powerlessness, we feel angry. If not addressed early, frustration, sadness, letdown, self-pity & other negative emotions often converge into anger & we lose control. When you are in a calm state, decide how you want to respond to others around. Decide how you want to respond to loved-ones & to strangers when you start to feel powerless. Play out mental scenarios on how you can channel your anger into using effective communication skills that engage others in solving a problem instead of driving out solutions that instill fear in others. In doing so, you will create a happier world for you & everyone around you.

Control versus Influence: Whether or not we believe that we have control over our lives, we should always continue to influence our thinking in order to achieve the goals that we want. Your current thinking is based on all your prior learnings & experiences. Your future thinking will be based on all your current learnings & experiences. By choosing what you want to learn & experience will help you to achieve the mindset to be the person that you want to be. Take control of the things you are learning & experiencing, today. It will be good for your future health & happiness.

Control Your Practice: What do you want to get better at doing? What do you want to become? Write down all your daily activities and decide which ones are contributing to the better version of you and which ones are holding you back. Then, start spending more time with daily practices that will contribute to the better you.
